Pre-size
A vision of Olympic Fruit Company is to ultimately pack all fruit for immediate sale and maintain a just-in-time packed product inventory. Towards this goal we installed a one-of-a-kind pre-size line in 2005. This line utilizes minimal water in fruit transfer and an innovative dry bin filler technology out of Holland. A series of fruit assessment technologies within this line make it particularly unique and advantageous in a non-destructive manner. Automatic defect sorting allows us to pull blemishes of specific size and shape while leaving the desired percentage in the bin. Near infrared internal assessment allows us to detect internal browning and/or water core as well as sweetness. Individual fruit pressure testing ability is carried out through a series of light taps on the apple allowing further quality segregation. Size and color are obviously determined as well. The unique facets of this line have allowed us to identify and capitalize in numerous market opportunities beyond the desired goal of pack to order. Providing total fruit quality specifications to meet the needs of the emerging slice industry has been one of the most exciting. This ability has and will provide our growers with improved market opportunities for all of their fruit. Our ability to detect and remove internal browning is another way we are able to provide all of our customer's confidence in the overall quality of the fruit we deliver.
